| ½ lbs. ground chuck | ||
| (5 1/3 oz.) can evaporated milk | ||
½ C cracker crumbs (Mama says double this) | ||
| C | shredded American cheese | |
| egg beaten | ||
| C | chopped onion (Mama says triple this) | |
¾ t. salt | ||
| t | pepper | |
| t | basil leaves | |
| slices American cheese | ||
Combine all ingredients except cheese slices in large mixing bowl, mix well. Place mixture in an 8 ½ x 4 ½ x 2 5/8 loaf pan or shape in a pan on top of wire rack covered with foil. Poke a few holes in foil. Bake 375 for 1 hour. Remove from oven. Cut each cheese slice into 2 triangles and arrange on top of loaf. Return to oven for 2 minutes. Let stand 10 minutes before serving. |
