When we first made the appointment they told us we would have to wait until August 25 which was a 2 month wait! Today they called and they had a cancelation so we now have an appointment next Thursday morning. It will be nice to get it over with. I have a feeling there won’t be much they can tell us, but it will be good to talk to someone who knows something and it’s not just me making my own speculations. Being the big dork that I am, I accidentally deleted the video off of my camera. I put it back on the card, but my camera won’t play it anymore. Oh well. I’ll upload it to a CD and take that along, I imagine they have a computer there where they can read a CD. We have not seen Parker roll his eyes in quite a while which is great. I do still watch him closely and every once in a while I wonder if maybe he’s doing it, but I can’t see his eyes at the time so it’s tough to say. I think having the video will be a huge advantage when we see the neurologist - it’s a tough thing to describe otherwise.
So, today was somewhat emotional with Camden. I just never know what I’m going to get with him. We met daddy and Uncle John for lunch. Camden cried because he didn’t want to have lunch with daddy… when two hours earlier he was on the couch whimpering “I want daddy.” Make up your mind kid!
I’ve decided we really need a tape recorder in the car. Man, the conversations I have with this kid. I can never completely remember them but here’s what I remember from today… He had a small plastic care bear and zebra with him and said they were in his pants. I asked what they were doing and if they were having a party. Camden then told me that they were looking for cake. They found cake! Very excited for his care bear at this point. He asked me if I wanted some and I politely declined explaining that I didn’t really want any cake that had been in his pants. He then told me that the bear likes cake from his pants and explained to me that it was clean.
Such a fun conversation… and then we get to lunch… didn’t want to get out of the car, didn’t want to have lunch with daddy, wanted to go home… wah wah wah…. I put him in a chair and told him we could talk when he was done crying. The rest of us sat at another table and that’s how it stayed for the duration of lunch. Camden sat alone. He did finally chill out and I gave him his juice and later his pizza and chips (after some threatening that if he was crying that meant he must be tired and when we got home he was going straight down for nap. No playing, no books, no singing… I was a little irritated at this point!)
I guess its not just the girls that have mood swings He’s still the joy in my life… most of the time
I uploaded some old Camden videos to our video site (link on the right). He’s just too funny!
Here’s a new Camden video, his new “trick” at the park.
just downloaded firefox 3 with the massess….. thought i would see if it actually works with wordpress and windows vista (but I think I recently updated word press too…)
For the past couple of weeks we have been noticing that Parker occasionally rolls his eyes back in his head. We have no idea why this is happening, so, this morning we took him to Children’s Hospital for an EEG. Our pediatrician should get the results in about a week.
Totally by fluke chance, I managed to get a video of one of his “episodes”.
So…. I took Parker to the pediatrician last Monday. They submitted the referral for the EEG and we were expecting a month wait to get the appointment once the referral was approved. Not sure if we got really lucky or if our pediatrician lit a fire under someones butt, but we got in today! So much better than waiting a month! Our instructions were to keep Parker up “as late as possible” and get him up between 4 and 5am. After a little internet research I decided that 11pm was an acceptible time to put him to bed. Here’s a few pics of how we spent our night!
Tired boy eating graham crackers:
Mommy brought the water table inside:
Playing catch:
We also spent time playing in the playroom, eating more snacks, nursing, more water play, more playing with balls, practicing walking…. Whatever I could think of to keep him happy! There was only one meltdown and it was cured with a little nursing magic. At 10:30 we took a long bath and then off to bed.
Brian got up at 4:30 this morning, took a quick shower, then got Parker up… he really didn’t want to wake up yet! The best was on the car ride there, Brian sat in the back and did everything he could to keep Parker awake during the drive…. even dripping water on his head! I was cracking up at how much effort he had to put forth to keep the poor child awake.
When we got to the room and got ready for the EEG the technician wrapped him up and I held him down while they started placing electrodes on his head… this caused screaming… which caused him to sweat… which made the electrodes fall off! Time for plan B. We shut off the lights, I nursed and cuddled him and he went to sleep. Once he was out, I layed him on the bed and we started with the electrodes again. For the most part it didn’t bother him but there was one in front of and one behind the ear and those tickled and he eventually woke up, started screaming and started sweating… She quickly added the last few and gave him back to me to nurse back to sleep.
I held him for the duration of the test because we were afraid he would wake up again. After she got enough data while asleep we woke him up and they turned on a strobe type light and monitored just a little while with that light going on and of (flashing for a few seconds then turning off for a bit and repeating.) After that she pulled off the electrodes and washed some of the goop out of his hair and we were done. He got a cute little dinosaur as a gift for being such a trooper. They recommended sedation if we ever have to do this again! Hopefully we won’t!!!! Here’s some pictures of the EEG….
Happy again on the shuttle to the car!
There are more photos in our photo gallery! We’ll update everyone when we get the results!
We finally got some video of Parker taking a couple of steps. It’s not the best video, but you get the idea! I also got a video of Camden and Parker playing in the water table. It was Parker’s first time playing the water table and he had so much fun! Both boys needed dry clothes before nap!
Parker took three steps today. He walked from mommy to the ottoman where his ball was sitting. Daddy was even here to see it! We tried to get him to do it again for the camera, but it’s pretty predictable what happened next Maybe next time! He’s gotten really comfortable standing and even dancing and clapping while he stands.
Camden just loves to sing. He only does it when he doesn’t really think anyone is paying attention, he is definitely not ready for center stage. But he has been singing along to hi Hullabaloo CD’s in the car and sings along with the music in his favorite tv shows (current favorite is the Backyardigans) He occasionally busts out the ABC’s or twinkle twinkle little start. I recently heard him sing itsy bitsy spider for the first time too. Both boys really seem to like music which is really cool. Hopefully they will get some musical talent from their Daddy… heaven knows they won’t get it from me!
Puppet play… yesterday i was playing with a puppet with Parker and he thought it was pretty hillarious. He’d pull the puppet off my hand and then he’d hold it and look at it and would be so confused as to why it was just sitting there and not interracting with him. It was great! Puppets are almost as funny as when I put a ponytail holder on top of my head then move my head so it falls off…. apparently it’s side splitting funny?!
